.DISCUSSION...

...Synopsis...
Focus will be fire weather concerns today through Sunday.
Especially focused on Sunday as that is when the highest winds
align with the lowest relative humidity values.
Today, a cold front will is moving southeast and will be near a
Roseau to Grand Forks to Jamestown line at 12z and then push
southeast out of west central MN by 18z. There is a band of mid
clods near the front. Earlier showers along it have dissipated
but will watch for any shower development has it moves
southeast. Moisture is limited to the 700-600 mb layer.
Gusty north-northwest winds behind the front today in the 15-25
mph range, strongest in the Red River valley. Dry airmass behind
the front combined with shifting winds will bring near critical
fire weather conditions with lowest RH values in the 20 to 25
percent range.
Winds turn south to southeast Saturday morning and southerly
increasing to 20 to 30 mph Saturday afternoon focusd in
northeast ND and the northern Red River valley. Will need to
watch RH values again but forecasts would indicate another day
of near critical fire weather conditions.
A 850 mb warm front will be located along the US/Canada border
Saturday and there has been signals from the short term and
global models of a 20-30 percent chance for a few showers or a
t-storm along the border and especially north on Saturday. Did
keep in low pops right along the border. Otherwise dry Saturday.
Sunday will see very warm to hot airmass spread over the area
along with south winds 20 to 30 mph gusts to 45 mph within the
RRV. Highs will reach near record values with highs in the upper
80s to mid 90s, warmest in the northern RRV. These temps and
winds will bring likely critical fire weather conditions to all
areas.
Similar conditions may continue into Monday.
For Tuesday-Wednesday period... ensemble data and trends support
a more westward and slower moving upper low into Montana
Wednesday as noted by the 00z ECMWF vs farther east. This would
keep our area in the heat and wind on Tuesday once again
whereas operational 00z GFS wants to break out some convection
thru central into NE ND Tues aftn, vs dry ECMWF. Based on
potential ridging along to our east I would side 70 pct chance
in favor of ECMWF slower and western idea. This slower ECMWF
idea will even keep most of Wednesday daytime dry but as sfc low
tracks north thru western ND Wed aft/eve a front will move thru
Wed night giving a chance for t-storms. Upper low moves east-
northeast into S Manitoba Thursday with continued chances for
rain but cooler temperatures.

VFR skies tonight with winds veering as a front moves through
overnight S to NW. Some sct to bkn high clouds with the passage of
the front with a slight (30 percent) chance for rain/thunderstorms
particularly in DVL and GFK area towards the 07-11z time. Gusts will
frequently be 15-25 kts by tomorrow afternoon with a short lull
overnight as winds drop ahead of the front.

Coordination with all nearby offices yielded an area wide near
critical fire wx condition wording, SPS for MN and in HWO for
eastern ND. Mainly due to lowest RH 20-25 pct along with cold
front moving thru and shifting winds from south to north.
Fire weather watch parts of NW MN Saturday, but otherwise looks
like another near critical day as south winds return 15 to 25
mph over NE ND/nrn RRV and RH drops to 20-25 pct.
Sunday is a day where strong south winds with gusts 35-45 mph
combine with very warm to hot temperatures in the upper 80s to
mid 90s to bring low RH values into the teens to low 20s. Fire
weather watch all areas Sunday for likely critical conditions.
Similar conditions may exist on Monday as well.
